Love Life Wisdom

Asked about coworking with the two young jazz musicians who possess a much higher degree of playfulness, Indra Lesmana preferred spontaneity rather than restraining their freedom with scores dictation. With nearly 40 years of experience, he knows how to conduct a three-way conversation on the stage, giving a natural disposition in a unity. It is not without a reason the LLW's first album is entitled Love Life Wisdom. The first track out the total seven in the album, Back Into Sumthin, for example, is written by Indra for LLW (read Double L Double U) with a consideration in making the most out of the band, rather than to stand out on his self-preferrence.

Soon after forming the band of three with Barry Likumahuwa (bass) and Sandy Winarta (drum) in late 2010, they started recordings in December and launched an album the next year that generated an unexpected level of success on its first sales in itunes. The album made its way from the 40 to 18 most downloaded jazz album at the time, beating Norah Jones, while going straight up the chart to take on John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. Given this achievement, they precipitated the launch of physical album in mid 2011.

The modern jazz album, initiated by Indra's idea, is 46th album, and also his 65th album production throughout his career, either in solo or in collaboration with various musicians. Besides Barry and Sandy, the album tags along young musicians of different styles and genres. There are Kyriz Boogiemen, the rapper who often appeared in many jazz events, who writes the lyric in the second track Stretch N Pause, talking about some jazz legends after learning about jazz history in Indonesia, Dira Sugandi, the female pop-soul singer whose voice in the song Love Life Wisdom speaks about life journey, and Indra Aziz, the versatile saxophonist who also sings and scats. Love Life Wisdom marked the success of an Indonesian jazz album in global music store, while also making another big step in the country's modern jazz style by involving established and young musicians.
