Fenomena

The revival of the 80s era singer Fariz RM in his latest album Fenomena brings a number of new songs after a decade of absence in song writing. Whereas in the past his versatility were evident in the ways he produced song, from composing, singing, and playing multiple instruments, now he let young composers make songs in their own ways that reflect his energy.

The new hit single, Fenomena, arranged by composer Erwin Gutawa with a predominantly rock style of Fariz preference, depicts about the relevant issues we face in the modern lives of Indonesia. Apparently this aims to attract the new youth as well as his fans of past eras. Other new songs such as Hati Yang Terang, written by Pongki Barata, is intended to make us contemplate about our raison d'ĂȘtre, the reason for our very existence. Love theme finds a place in the tracklist with a song written by Glenn Fredly and Andre Dinuth, Terindah. The remake of Selangkah Ke Seberang, a hit single from his first album of the same name in 1979, was recorded live in 2011 Java Jazz International Festival with Erwin Gutawa Big Band.

Fariz remained non-promiscuous to specific genres. In Fenomena, Erwin Gutawa deliberately includes pop, R&B, soul, funk, blues, rock, jazz in an attempt to reassert Fariz character to listeners, perhaps a majority of them are young generations. And not only he makes this album for the youth, but also with them. Musicians of later generation such as mentioned above made an involvement in making this album happened. There are also talented composers such as Bemby Noor and Teguh D, and the Prague Concerts Orchestra to contribute some sort of modern elements.
