Cerita Baru

It took Indro Hardjodikoro four years to produce his second solo album Cerita Baru that bears many similarities to the first album Feels Free. Both took inspiration from his personal life, and both took a simple mixture of jazz form and pop ballad. A significant distinction is in the involvement of his many friend musicians, such as Ricad Hutapea and Fabion (saxophones), Andi Zoel (vocal) and Indra Dauna (trumpet), Yoseph Sitompul (keyboard), Utox (guitar), including Yandi Andaputra (drummer), Indro's young protege at his band Indro Harjodikoro & the Fingers.

The album reveals Indro's life chapters that went through the ups and downs. Menarilah Matahari is a merriment with agile and heavy bass tone that contrasts with, for instance, Tetaplah Bertahan, a low-key, feel-blue melody that illustrates a sober but courageous person against all odds. There are a a couple of ballads as well, noticeable in Fly Me, and Your Love, precisely as the title suggests. This time Indro also uses his closest surrounding as a material in song writing. Foggie Night tells about Indro's home that is situated on a hilly area.

Only one out of nine tracks that uses vocal, that is the mellow song Sampai Mati, which serves as the opening track. The decision to use this song is most likely due to the pop voice and melody which Indro puts forward to signify the pop jazz album. Another trace of the first album in Cerita Baru can be found in the rearranged last song My Angels. It gives a different kind of nuance, as if we are amused by experiencing a variety in life routine. Some called it deja vu.
