Sarimanouk

On April 2010, Julian Marantika, Sarimanouk pianist, said at the end of the concert in Teater Salihara that it will be their last concert prior the album launch. He pointed out the band's drummer Sandy Winarta's plan to pursue his master's degree and the saxophonist Talafaral's plan to leave the band to his hoem country as the reason. The concert played the entire song found in the eponymous album. Each of the nine songs contained the members' distinctive expressions in experimenting a modern music, yet maintaing jazz characteristics. Such is influenced by the 50's repertoire jazz style correlated with Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Miles Davis plays.

The opening song Getting There, for instance, exposes such character using the combination of instruments largely used in that era, from piano, contrabass, drum, and led by syncopated melody from saxophone.

Likewise, the introduction of ballad songs in Meno's Mood does not go astray from experimental jazz. Sometimes the tempo accelerates, like in Reunion 3, written by Julian, or in Request, where Talafaral plays the dynamic tempo in an upbeat music. But between these tracks, there are also the cool effect in the Reunion 5, so it is made so by Donny's play.

This is a noteworthy album especially for those who would like to experience a modern, experimental songs, but with a strong jazz root.
